Since the inception of Fair Lady Funerals in the Southern States by a friend and former co-worker of ours two years ago, we have closely studied the relationship between funeral director and bereaved as to whether empathy, communication and ultimate recovery could be improved by offering an entire funeral service staffed by females. Our study convinced us beyond doubt that a larger proportion of bereaved, given the choice would prefer to be consulted by a compassionate and caring female. We found male to male contact, can in some cases, be additionally stressful due to the "stiff upper lip" syndrome, harmfully containing the bereaved persons real self, true feelings, further repressing their grief.

Many women also feel more comfortable making arrangements with someone from their own gender. They may have had traumatic experiences with the opposite sex and would prefer the empathy and trust of another woman at this time of great upheaval in their lives.
